Biography
of
Wilbert “WIL” Richard Nickerson,
Candidate for County Commissioner,
District 3, Pasco County Florida
Born September 22, 1945 in Boston,
Massachusetts, Wil spent his childhood years in the tiny New England Town of Plympton, Mass---Population 600. Being the adopted son, his mother a Boston Business School teacher, and his father a Lobster Fisherman, who later owned and operated a wholesale lobster business in Boston
which shipped all over the world, Wil comes from a diverse and structured background. He was
taught from the earliest age to think for himself, ask questions, and care about others. He was a
leader from day one, dating back to giving speeches for his school on “The Town Green” at age 11 to being President of his Church Youth
Fellowship as a teenager, and being on the announcing staff and debate team in High
School. He has never been afraid of hard work and as a teenager worked on the cranberry
bogs harvesting berries and at his father’s Lobster Business in Boston every summer to help pay for his tuition. He attended Cornwall Academy-Great Barrington, MA. and the University of Bridgeport, CT. where he majored in
Industrial Design. He is also an accomplished pianist, having taken lessons as a child for
7 years. When time allows, he enjoys playing as a form of relaxation, on the same piano his
mother played on as a child. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Brackett, in 1966 and
has one daughter Marcy. Cheryl has worked at
North/Meadowlawn Funeral Homes, in New Port Richey for the past 24 years.
An avid Boater, Wil held the position of Vice Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #605 in Fairhaven, MA. His love for animals led him to be “appointed” Part-Time Animal Control Officer in Plympton,
MA., a position he enjoyed for several years.
His working career spans several
areas-----all of which he excelled at.
He is a Certified Auto. Mechanic
and in the later 60’s leased a Cities Service (Citgo) –service station for several years in Plympton, Ma. This is the same Service Station he later purchased and ran prior to moving to Florida in 1983.
In the early 70’s he was Purchasing Agent for Auto. Transport Company in Dedham, Ma. and was also in charge of repairs and
maintenance for a Fleet of 46 Tractor Trailers.
From 1972 thru early 1979 he worked in pre-stressed concrete construction. Working
his way up from laborer, to foreman, to Erection Superintendent in charge of erecting high-rise building all over the New England
States.
This was a highly specialized field and
his reputation as a troubleshooter was well known. Well-liked by his crews and employer who promised he would always have a job if he ever
wanted to come back.
In April of 1984, tired of the bitter cold and snow, he and his family moved to Holiday, Florida, where he became a Licensed Real
Estate Agent, then Broker, and he worked in the West Pasco Real Estate Market for nearly 10 years, at one time owning his own
office.
When the Real Estate market slowed
down in the early 90’s, he decided to go back to his roots and open Classic Car Care, an old car restoration Shop which he successfully ran
until 2004. His work has won many awards at local and out of state Classic Car Shows and he
always had a waiting list . Anyone that brought their car to Wil knew he would do it the “right
way” and not cut any corners. His work was meticulous in every way.
Wil has held many positions over the years, to name a few---
Board Member: H.A.C. lobbying for homeowner insurance reform
Current President since 2006: Forest Hills East Civic Association
Past President: Forest Hills East Civic Association: 1985---1987

Served on many varied committees, with countless meetings with County and State Officials
Vice-Commander U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Fairhaven, MA.

Wil’s hobbies include: Classic Cars, scuba diving, and going on cruises. But, by far, his biggest thrill in life has been locating
his biological sister, whom he did not meet until 2004 at age 58. They share an incredible
bond that will never be broken.
